Promethean - Camera demonstration

Role

Animator, editor, director

The Challenge

We needed to demonstrate how the new web camera works so customers and partners could see how the pan, tilt, and zoom features worked.

The Idea

An animated simulation of the product would have made for a more polished video, but that wouldn't demonstrate how the product worked in real time, which is what was needed, so we staged a meeting and got a few coworkers to join us on Teams to create the scene.

The Execution

The camera's key feature is it pans to and zooms in on whoever is speaking. The meeting host walks in, and we cut to a shot from the web camera. It's still at a wide angle. When he speaks, the camera zooms in on him. We cut to a shot from behind us to show how our solution seamlessly integrates with Teams. The female begins speaking, so we cut back to the webcam to see it panning and zooming to her.

Another element that was important to show was how easy it is to install the webcam. The idea solution would be to film someone slotting it in, but there wasn't time to go back to the office and stage that so I used the 3D models we had to show it. The camera spins around the webcam to show how the webcam looks at various angles. The webcam is falling into place, which is a USB slot on top of the ActivPanel 10. At the end, I animated the cover opening and closing so viewers could see that it had one.
